Melissa is a state and local tax (SALT) director responsible for spearheading the SALT initiative at MGO’s San José office. She has close to a decade of experience in the accounting field, with the vast amount of her time spent deciphering the ever-changing state and local tax arena as it pertains to state income taxes and sales and use tax. Melissa serves as a trusted advisor and ally to her clients which consists of a large pool of industries from agricultural to software to professional services and products.
Prior to joining MGO, Melissa began her career with a Big Four and regional firm where she focused on the state and local taxes for various businesses. At her last firm, she served as the initial SALT member for their newly established SALT practice where she was the go-to person for numerous offices for anything related to the complexities of her knowledge. Melissa is proactive with clients in assisting in the timely completion of nexus studies for both income and sales and use tax. She is experienced in being an advocate for taxpayers in discussions with various local taxing jurisdictions — which currently is more than 11,000 different jurisdictions across the nation.
