I work with a diverse range of clients, including technology startups, software companies, and traditional businesses, helping them structure and execute tax-efficient growth and exit strategies. I have nurtured a longstanding commitment to nonprofit organizations as well, having helped an animal shelter obtain tax-exempt status in the 1990s—a relationship that continues to this day due to my ongoing board service and continued representation of other nonprofits.

In my approach to tax planning, I focus on understanding my clients’ exposure, which includes the size and scope of an issue or opportunity, and then I design strategies to reduce that exposure or increase the corresponding savings. To stay ahead of evolving tax laws, I return to the basics: reading the Code itself, staying current through research tools, and maintaining a working, practical understanding of the law.

I’ve always been fascinated by how the disciplines of business and law intersect. When this path led me to the world of tax, first at Touche Ross in Atlanta, where I worked on transaction structuring and inbound investments for Japanese multinationals, and later at EY in New York and Chicago, focusing almost exclusively on M&A consulting. One of my proudest professional achievements was forming an SEC-registered broker-dealer and achieving effective registration with both the SEC and FINRA in under six months, a testament to the value of persistence and precision in highly regulated environments.

Beginning my tax career after the 1986 Tax Reform Act, I’ve witnessed firsthand the evolution of modern tax planning. Today, I’m motivated by the extraordinary opportunities available to my clients. Helping them identify and leverage these opportunities to achieve lasting financial benefit continues to inspire the work I do every day.
