With offices in Sacramento, the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles , Orange County and San Diego, we know California. We understand the unique circumstances inherent to doing business in the Golden State because we’ve served hundreds of California entities for over two decades. Our expertise has propelled us into a leadership role in both our state and our nation: we’re the market leader in our flagship governmental practice, serving more large local governments than any other firm in our state; we’re staffed with principals who are nationally recognized as thought leaders in our profession; and – fueled by exponential growth in our for-profit business lines – we’re ranked as the 29th fastest-growing CPA firm in the country.
Founded by Kenneth Macias in 1987, the firm began with a focus on serving governments and nonprofits in northern California. Ernest Gini joined the firm in 1991, and in 1992, the firm’s Los Angeles offices were established. Kevin O’Connell joined in 1996 to open a bay area location. In 2000, with the addition of national firm veteran Jan Rosati, the firm began building additional service lines in multiple industries and brought Jim Godsey on board to lead the growing Los Angeles practice. In 2002, the firm forged a strategic alliance with BDO Seidman LLP. As a result of continued growth, MGO opened its San Diego offices in 2005 and added a second bay area location in 2006. Also in 2006, the firm acquired Essary, Dal Porto & Lowe LLP to expand its tax and assurance resources in northern California. In 2008, MGO acquired Orange County firm Moreland & Associates, resulting in the addition of offices in Newport Beach and San Marcos. Also in 2008, tax expert Tom Forbes joined the partnership to expand the firm's service coverage for southern California clients. Today, MGO is a multi-dimensional service provider with a statewide client base in a wide variety of industries.
We’re proud of the national recognition we’ve received for our California expertise: Two of our professionals have been appointed to serve as the only west coast representatives on the prestigious AICPA State and Local Government Expert Panel, and three of our partners have served on the AICPA State and Local Government Accounting and Auditing Committee, the AICPA Auditing Standards Board and the GASB 34 Task Force.
